Can anyone help?

I have a 1983 CJ7 Laredo that is having turn signal issues. I've had the issues ever since i bought the jeep.

When the lights are off and I engage either the left or right signal, they work. If I engage the signals while the brake is pressed only the front and side markers blink. When I turn the lights on, only the front and side markers blink.

Has anyone run across this or a similar issue?

Thanks a bunch

Do you have a two element buld in it. It sounds like you have a 1056 bulb(single element), in it.

I agree with Ithoughtitwasagoodidea OR you could have a ground problem somewhere. I rebuilt a 1970 CJ5 about 15 years ago and after painting it I could not get the turn signals working and when i did, the brake lights wouldn't work, and when I got them working the hazard flashers wouldn't work..I WAS ABOUT TO PULL MY HAIR OUT. I call my electritian buddie and he came over and scratched a small piece of paint off around my light housing and said the the older vehicles were grounded through the light housings and when I painted the jeep I lost my ground. He fixed it in about 2 seconds.....Good luck

It's just a single bulb.

I'll try the ground. I wonder if i could run a wire grounding it to the frame or something?

When I had blinker issues I discover my brake switch was faulty. Could it be that? I am sure it is a ground issue but wanted to add that the brake switch might be source of the problem.

This is just a guess and only a guess.

Mine started acting funny and I found the bulb out of the left front blinker. Seems it's like the old Christmas tree lights. One failure anywhere and the whole system is affected. I would say it is probably a ground also.

I had a problem with mine a couple of weeks ago. Found a bulb blown on the front. Put in a replacement and everything worked fine.
BTW, the front takes an 1157a bulb and the rear ia 1157. Both double element bulbs.

Where might I find the brake switch?

Well I got my brake signals working just fine but now all of a sudden the right front parking lamp and signal won't work. Bulbs are fine and so is the wiring.

Windshield wiper is acting funny too. works some of the time and some of the time it doesn't

I have a 79 CJ7 that currently is giving me funny light problems. Sometimes it was the grounding because these are notorious for it. Still having issues especially when head lights are on. I have rusty light sockets and body parts, but funds are short and school is taking my time. So for now i drive during the day and being in small town they don't care if my blinkers don't work...knock on wood.
