1982 CJ has holes for two long chrome "skirts" that mount at the bottom of the body, underneath the doors, between wheel well fenders. What are the called? I need to buy new ones for each side. Are the just body trim pieces? I have two that are in rough shape. One has the bolt/nuts the slide up and down in a channel inside. The other one has only one. Not sure where to purchase the hardware. Thanks, Dave

I believe you are describing some aftermarket rocker panel guards, they are about 1/16" thick. The ones that I had worked great until I hit some rocks with them. I replaced them with heavier angle iron rockers of 1/8" until I bent those, so now I have a set of 3/16" and they seem to work just fine.

I think your talking about the trim pieces that came stock on Laredo models. The "T" bolts arent easy to find. I'll take some pics of some I have when I get home. If youd fill out your profile a bit it helps us answer your questions a little easier.

Thank you! It is a Laredo , I believe. I just got this one and am still trying to put all the info about it together. I was first told it was a Renegade . I believe you are correct about the pieces being OEM. Is there a substitute for those T-bolts that's readily available?

That's it! Thanks!

It's been a while since I put that together but if memory serves correctly the elevator bolt is an inch in diameter... A dime is .7" in diameter and it looks like in that picture it's 1.5 dimes across....

I also think the elevator bolt only came in one size and it's stainless steel. So no need to worry about it rusting.

ACE hardware was where I got 90% of my hardware.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Sorry got a little busy after work. How bad are yours? I 'll get pics of mine tomorrow.

Still debating. Rusty inside the channel. T-Bolts need replacing. I need to look at the more closely and determine if they're stainless or chrome. If they're stainless I will polish them with mag polish and a dremel, if not powder coating maybe.

Either way, I will need to sand out the channels and Rustoleum 'em. Wire brush and time I don't have much of! I do want them back on and as you can see my Jeep is nearly restored to semi-factory.

And I like it. I have some from my Limited . I wont be using them but I have to dig around for them. Just cant do it right now. I'll post some pics tomorrow for you though.

mine came with them as well, and like yours the T bolts are worthless, I am pretty sure the rails are made out of aluminum though, I like your idea of polishing them as I also want to polish mine and am going to have too fab new T bolts to :chug:

Factory rockers were anodized aluminum. Depending on the year, some were black anodized and some were silver.

So they should able to be polished?

Yep. They can be. Some people paint them too. If the factory adonization is worn off/ trashed, you can polish them, but keep in mind they then won't be protected at all and aluminum will corrode if expsosed to road salt etc (pitting etc).

Is there something I can coat them with after I polish them? Maybe a poly-something that would work? It's garage kept and a fair weather rider, so it may be a moot point to worry about it after I polish them.

If it's garage kept and fair weather I'd just polish them and leave it be. Unless you're driving salted roads etc it will likely stay shiny.
You could clear coat them but if you don't drive in nasty stuff I wouldn't bother.
