Hello - I have 81 CJ5 and the passanger side windhield knob nut is missing. I have looked at several site to find info out. How is the nut attached to the back of the dash panel? Do aftermarket dash panels include these nuts?

Thank you!

The 'windshield knob nut'?

The one that locks the windshield down? Correct?

The nut that the windshield knob screws into (hopefully using correct terminology) Here is a pic. The windshild knob that screws in has no threads to screw into.

There should be a nut welded to the back side of the dash panel. If you do not have one, it has sheared off or is stripped out. :(

That is what I thought. Looks like i will have to borrow a welder and try to tack a nut there somehow.

I would say this was an excelant job for epoxy. seriously, you will just about have to drop the dash so you can reach the back side of the dash pannel and clear the glove box. No way I would try to weld that.
How often do you drop the windshield??
just don't glue the threads.

This may even be a good place for a clip on sheet metal nut.

As an alternative (or short term solution) to what has been suggested, I bet you could run a stubby bolt from behind the dash and then put a big wingnut or nut+washer on the front side. I'd also epoxy the bolt head to the back of the dash to keep it from sliding out. It might not be pretty, but it would provide the strength needed to keep the windshield in place safely.
