Windshield Frame Screws

I got around to mounting my 78 CJ7 windshield on to my CJ5 . Everything went nearly perfect. The PO snapped off 2 bolts on the windshield frame, and will have to be drilled out. 4 more bolts went in perfectly. The last two will not tighten up all the way. The first thing I was thinking is that there are broke bolts in there, so I probed with a thin screw driver and established that there are no broken bolts in the holes.

Once you get the bolts tightened as much as you can, the can still be moved around in the hole. I'm wondering if the welded nuts came loose.

I had high hopes that everything would be close enough to tighten down. I guess the next step is to take the windshield off and see if the bolts go in without the hinges.

If that doesn't work, does anyone else have any suggestions?

Not sure which bolts you are talking about. A picture would help.

Have you run a tap in the holes?

Which hinge are you using? The Intermediates used a strange hinge compared to the 76+ did.

The hinge bolts. Everything seems to line up.

I'm going to invest in a tap & die set this weekend. I'll have to give the bolt holes a run.
