I'm am looking for a wiper motor for my 62 CJ6 . It was converted from the 6 v system to a 12 v. I have bought 2 different wiper motors and both have quickly stopped working. They just weren't strong enough to wipe accross the windshield for some reason. I haven't used either one of them very much. Can anyone recommend a good one that will last? Mine mounts into the top of the windshield.

I bet those motors are good. I think the wiper linkage is binding.

When I bought my CJ5 the PO told me the wipers don't work. They never did work for him. He bought new motors but never did get them to work.

The problem was the windshield frame was bent just where the driver side wiper pivot was mounted. Because of this the wiper pivot was pointing slightly to the drivers side. When I would turn on the wipers they would go all the way to the right and stop there. To understand how it was binding look at this picture.

When the wipers would move the little arm on part 9 would swing back and forth. When the wiper would go all the way to the passenger side the little arm on part 9 was almost a strait line with part 5. The motor couldn't push the wiper back. This was becouse part 9 was at an angle because the windshield frame was bent just where the piviot (part 9) was mounted.
Your CJ is an older model than mine and older than the picture but it still could be the same issue with the linkage binding. My picture is of the linkage on the bottom of the windshield. I had an access hole behind the padded dash. I think you can watch the linkages in the cab. See if the linkages become too strait and bind.

I got some help from running a ground from the wiper motor housing to the battery. Not sure how the '62 is wired, but the newer CJ wiper motors are grounded thru the window hinges and latches, not very good.

Thanks for the impute guys. Busadave9 - my wipers mount differently. They are up on the top of the windshield and are 2 seperate motors.
I did ground them to the battery. I think I just have a bad motor. anyone recommend a good brand?
