Sounds like someone swapped in wide trac axles for the narrow tracs that should be there. Mine is the exact opposite.

Well after many phones calls I have found out I have a wide track axle in my 1981 jeep. Even though it's stamped to mean 1981 and the vin says it's a 1981. I now sit here with new axles and morris won't take them back. Anyone interested in new one piece axles for their 76 thru 81 jeep? They are ready to go?

Man some of these vendors suck. Customer service has really taken a dive.

Morris 4X4 said they couldn't take them back since they had bearings anstalled on the and they had been installed on the jeep. Well they weren't installed on the jeep cause they were too short. In defence of morris 4X4 it was not there fault, it was not my fault. I just have a bastard 1981 jeep rear end. It's titled 1981, It's got 1981 stamps on the casing. It's got 1982 axles

I guess with the bearings on there it does make it a problem for them.

AMC is the worse offender for this
that I have ever dealt with. Love jeeps but dang the "well if it was built on a Wednesday after 1pm it has this lt but if it was between 11am and 11:20 it is this other one..
