A dipstick is one of several measurement devices.
Some dipsticks are dipped into a liquid to perform a chemical test or to provide a measure of quantity of the liquid.
Since the late 20th century, a flatness/levelness measuring device trademarked "Dipstick" has been used to produce concrete and pavement surface profiles and to help establish profile measurement standards in the concrete floor and paving industries.

    Engine Dauntless V6 Dipstick Tube

    I just got a 1968 CJ5 with the Dauntless V6. Somewhere along the line the dipstick tube got bent & the dipstick won't go in. I've looked everywhere and I can find the dipstick, but not the tube. Is there any kind of "universal" dipstick tube I can install?

    Engine 4.2L I6 258 Oil Capacity?

    Could someone offer a definitive answer on the factory recommended oil capacity for a 4.2L 258 engine? I've gotten conflicting info. Some say it's 5 quarts, while others say 6. If I put in 5 quarts, the dipstick level sits right below the "FULL" mark. but If I put in 6 quarts, it s just above...
