Whats the cheapest, most reliable way to get 1'' to about 1.5 inches more out of my suspension?

My front drive shaft is like maybe an inch from the lowest part of my BH and I want to try to squeeze as much clearence out of it as possilbe. The girlfriend who drives the jeep mostly is 5' 3'' so I dont want to get too crazy on the liftage.

While that would be the cheapest way to go your best results would probably come from a set of new stock height springs or 1" in lift spring. A set of stock replacements would probably net you the 1" 1 1/2 " your looking for and improve the ride quality over your 28 yr. old stockers.
I figure Since my springs are 28 years old...

Brand Recomendations?

Ive never had them personally but alot of people have had good things to say about Superlifts springs. Also if shes having trouble getting in with the extra lift how about a set of those small stock steps that I've seen on Laredo models. Heres the spring search I came up with.

Superlift Suspension 01-529R-6 - Superlift 1" Rear Leaf Spring for 65-86 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-7 & CJ-8 - Quadratec

Superlift Suspension 01-529F-6 - Superlift 1" Front Leaf Spring for 65-86 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-7 & CJ-8 - Quadratec

So are you saying that if the spring compresses an inch it's going to rub?

If the Pass wheel were to move upward, pushing the pumpkin up, then the front driveshaft can only go upward about an inch before it would hit the bellhousing. I haven't flexed tested the rig yet and I know that the shaft doesnt move a huge amount up and down but it is still too close for comfort. I think that if I replaced my 38 year old stock leafs with brand new stock height springs I would gain anywhere from an inch to 1 1/2 inches of clearence though....

I think your best move would be stock replacement springs. I would bet you will get about one inch on the pass side and 1.5 to 2 on the drive side. Jeeps lke to sag toward the drive side due to the driver being the only extra weight load most of the time. Even my six year old black diamond springs are sagging to the drive side. It is pretty annoying.

Anyone know about how much travel you would need in the drive shaft if you were to flex stock springs?

Your stock driveshaft will handle the flex from any spring under set up.

Few years back I did Rancho Springs and neopreme tub bushings or body mounts. It gave me about 1 1/2 inches of lift. The springs gave me about a inch and the mounts the rest.We had 31/10.5 tires at the time.

Mike,

Do you like the Rancho springs? How is the ride with them?

Thanks,
Chris

I meant how much will the stock driveshaft in the front move upwards at max flex with stock springs.

Well, the distance from your passenger side axle tube to the bump stop will be your upward distance and since the driveshaft is right there it will be the same measurement.

Yeah then the BH/driveshaft clearence will be an issue :(
