I have the stock base model 15x5.5" wheels for my 81 CJ8 . I really like tall skinny tires so I'm trying to find a 16" or 17" wheel that will work and probably 5.5-7" wide. Looking for something that looks like the wheel that the 205r15 tires came on. I had found one at a junkyard laying around with the correct center bore and bolt pattern but it would hit my brake calipers. I think it was a willys 16" wheel

The stock Willys 16" won't fit with calipers.
I was thinking a 40-63 F-AMC 150 17.5 5.5 wide 5x5.5 rim would work but you would have to enlarge the center hole. It may be hard to find a stock rim with your specs requirements.

17.5 probably won't work for me. I wanted to run either a 215/85 or 235/85 radial tire.

If price is not a concern, check out Stockton Wheel. They can build you something that will work I would bet.

If they still made them I'd get a set of 33x9.5 bfgs but I think they stopped about 2011. I mounted some 10.5s on my 5.5" wheels and they were just a little too big.

I'm with you on the 33x9.50, that would be the perfect size for a trail rig CJ imo. I guess on my next project I am going to use the 33x10.5 as the next closest option for a 15" wheel, unless I break down and have some 16" wheels made up.

34x9.5 works as well.
