Vehicle(s)
About 6-8 motorcycles, a 65' Impala SS, a Super Duty with da 7.3 liter!, and now a 75' CJ5 / Per serial number w/3speed 3,750lb. GVW w/304 2BBL carb don't know other info yet, just bought it.
Ok, trying to figure out the do's n don'ts and how-2's of the forum ( I'm on the web all the time but these forums still confuse me?) I think I'm getting there.

I found this Jeep for $2300.00 about 20 min from my house. It ran well enough to drive home. I'm a farmer and been around equipment all my life but I am still learning to speak "Jeep"!

She shows 32K on the clock (I think that is right judging by bushing wear on shackles etc.) Has a AMC 304 w/Headman Headers and brand new "Flowmaster like" mufflers.

Tires are not bad, HEI w/a mild cam it sounds like, she idles pretty mean. I wanted a fiberglass tub and this one is pretty nice. Jeep's rust in Ohio about 15 min. after you buy them and I hate rust.

3sp w/Dana 20 CJ thought, I'm not sure of the gears etc. yet just getting started. I broke the ball and socket link right away and need to determine if it was just rust on linkage or if I got Transfer Case "issues".

We (my daughter Breanne and I) will be pulling tub off to sand blast and fix some minor issues and hope to get a better look at what she is made of then.

So far so good, the headlights didn't work but I figured out it was just routing through an old snowplow switch which I won't need. (I plow w/my F-350 as Ohio wet snow tends to push light vehicles like Jeeps around too much).

So as soon as I clear some garage space we will get serious. I'm not planning to a total tear down of frame and suspension, just enough to get clean via blasting to paint and then put back together as I plan on putting more scratches on this ole' girl.

Any suggestions and advise welcome from you Jeep Guys :notworthy: as I have done lots of builds over they years from cafe' racer bikes to my 65' Impala SS, but not yet a Jeep! can't wait to skin some knuckles and drink some beer

:chug: along the way too!

I'm just finishing up my 75, so I feel confident saying that you're in for a lot of fun. I've got to say that yours looks great compared to what I started with. One thing I found (after not doing too much wrenching for about 30 years) is that overall the 75 CJ5 is a pretty simple, straight forward rig to work on. And the people on this forum are a tremendous help.

Anyway, welcome to the forum and good luck on your build.

I'll be watching  Bill

Welcome from Clarksville! Keep us posted.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. Pretty much still in the discovery phase right now till I get some room in my garage hopefully this weekend. Right now I trying to track down problems and discover degree of severity before I just start throwing parts and $$ at it. I did already score a new Transfer Case shifter and lindage on Ebay, now to determine if it was the shifter linkage or the Transfer Case that is the issue.

I am thankful :) in that my project is not near the challenge some embark on but I looked for about two years before I choose this one as I finally wanted to be "that guy ;)" who pickup up a project after someone else got tired and had done lots of the big $$ work, because I'm usually "That Guy" :(! :(

I got a Big Ole' Wench on this girl which I need to see if it works. The wires lead back to a box under the seat which looks totally home made. I think is a control junction that had a pig tail that plugged into it probably used for getting out of the vehicle when pulling out of a jam?

I finally figured out why my headlights didn't work once I found the headlight cutoff switch used for the snow plow But with only what looks like 14ga. wires and no relay no wonder why the guy who I bought it from said the headlights were dim!

I've got snakes nest of heavy gauge wires and relays which I assume were for the plow and possibly the wench too. I rewired my cafe' bike last winter :Dso I can figure this out I just need to not remove more than necessary. It's funny some things were done really well, others....not so much. She must have passed through many hands over the past years.

I don't think I need to buy a new harness I just need to clean this one up a bit and get grounding right.

Other fender and Tub come off next. Yes, this is really simple machine I've have a 87' Yamaha 4 wheeler that is more complicated than it. Can't wait  to dig in further now.

Do you have build thread link? Love to see what others have done! You are right I was crawling around under her last night just scoping things out and I couldn't get over the simplicity of the vehicle. I mean I've always known they were very basic but when I look at this fairly powerful V-8 hooked to not much more than a heavy duty Go-Cart chassis....LoL! wow no wonder people without a good grasp of what I call "The Physics of Life" were rolling these things over on the road a few years back and they had to dumb them down for the general public in our no-fault world!

Been a long time since I've been here! To be honest I forgot how to find this page/forum-thread. A birthday email I received from it helped me find it again. My 75' will be on the road soon. I am more a You Tube, G+, Face book kinda guy. I created a few videos and post on a G+ Jeep page my progress.

I'll just don't have the time to figure out how to post multiple pics etc. to this forum. I'm just not smart enough to master all the different types of social media. I did pick up a few pointers here and feel it is good to post as to give back to those who do get use from this forum.

This summer's wet weather has been brutal on my farming schedule, I'm sorry I didn't have the opportunity to post more of the progress. I do have tons of pics maybe this winter I can go back and make a "build thread"? We also run a small family winery and are opening up a craft brewery this year. :chug:

Here are some links to my frame and cross member building, frame boxing, frame painting, and Red coating of my new gas tank.

I found a cool little Jeep community on G+ https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/108267394186012699835

It is sort of cool because I have met Jeep people from all over the world there.

Thanks to all the Jeepers here! :notworthy: Will try and post in a couple weeks when I have my little CJ on the road. :chug:

Take care
