We have just purchased a 1976 jeep CJ7 QuadraTrac Automatic - all original. We are debating on whether to restore to a classic look or get outside the box with the build. I have researched everything i could find and it appears that the only paint option on the '76 CJ7 was a "Burnt Orange" - If that is not the case, please let me know. . . Not my favorite color in the world:confused:

:ww:
I can't imagine that was the only color. It's nice to keep things original but I would paint it any color I wanted. Just my opinion.

Cool site, but it looks like they have no info on Jeeps from 78-87 for some reason. If you use American Motors, however, it covers 1979 which is my year. Is there a paint code buried in the VIN that could be decoded??

That website is a great resource.

But there is no paint color code in the VIN # or the other entire VIN tag numbers.

whats the paintcode on your Cj? its a number then a letter for example mine is 7E oak leaf brown.

I would be more concerned with the Transmission that the paint. Not a big QuadraTrac fan. But the world is full of folks that worry more about radios than carburators. Go figgure.:D

My '76 CJ7 started life as a metallic brown Levi (Edition) eddition. Orange was not the only color.

On a side note, I am having problems with finding info on the heat / fresh air assembly. Could I trouble you for some pics of yours? If so, shoot me an IM.

Thanks!
