I found a 1977 Jeep CJ7 Golden Eagle .
Since there is nothing in the VIN to prove either way if it really is.
It almost appears it is a Golden Eagle .
Power disc brakes but no A/C and the hard top does not have a sky light like the dealer brochure states.
It is rated at the higher 4150 lbs.
Swing away spare tire holder, tachometer, roll bar and leather seats.
Maybe any ideas?

I know the Golden Eagles had gold painted wheels. That's about all the help I can give.

:ww: :dbanana:

The higher GVW is also do to the 'trailer' option of the time.
My '85 base model AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l came with this option, and has the same GVW rating.
Wonder what R&P your 'gold bird' has? Mine was 3:31:rolleyes:

one of the most frustration things about Jeep is that with the string of owners the mark has had, it can be very difficult to get proper information about specific models and options. When I did the research for the different models I found out a lot of the "facts" I know about jeeps were actually just legend. Such as the Levi (Edition) edition. Seems it was never an edition, but an add on package.
The Golden Eagle was an official edition, and there are a lot of things included in the package. How many survive in a 40 jeep today would be a :dung: shoot. Also I do not know if they had a separate VIN. It should have a AMC 304 v8, AC, power disc brakes, tachometer and the hood syicker.

The hood has an emblem on it though it appears the paint did not fade the same as the rest of the Jeep.
The owner states he has an extra dash panel, which I figure does not have the tachometer cut out.
The rims are chrome and there is no a/c. And no step under the rocker. I really have my doubts.
Also it does have power disc brakes but the master cylinder is equal front and back.

Pictures would help. Does it have the factory tach and clock? That is a dead giveaway, the option CJ's (Renegades, Golden Eagle , Limited , etc) all had the factory clock and tach in the dash.

The gold wheels were the factory "D" window wheels painted gold with a black pinstripe on them. Speaking of pinstripes, there were factory pinstripes on the grill as well around the front wheels and down the rocker.

Engine and Transmission combo's vary greatly, I thought all factory Golden Eagle 's had a AMC 304 , mine does not..., mine also has a factory T-18 . So, who knows if it was ordered that way or if that's the way it came. I also don't have factory air conditioning.

Unless you can find the factory build sheet, dealers window sticker or something, you probably can not prove that it is or isn't. Just like mine, and I'm sure thousands more :chug:

As mentioned, Jeep has had a way with these things. I have a book that is suppose to an encyclopedia of of all the different models, and I find it is just a general guide. Here is the main problem, people can just add stickers. I know I get BAJA Edition stickers made for mine. And I get people to swear their brother/father/friend/boss had a BAJA Edition just like mine. Problem is there was never ever a BAJA Edition.
I also know what an Edition starts out like, Jeep changes. I have pictures of Golden Eagle jeeps being white, and originally they were just Oakleaf Brown. So changes in equipment can be possible, I can see them dropping the AC, but I think the speedo and tach are intricate to the edition

Well, let's start with the top. That is not a factory AMC CJ7 top, the windows are wrong. I believe that is an ACME top, my CJ had one on it when I first bought it, it had matching doors too. It's molded plastic, not fiberglass like the factory ones, it's freaking heavy.

The steering wheel doesn't look like any Jeep steering wheel I've ever seen. It may be from another AMC, but it's not Jeep.

The body looks like it could be oak leaf brown, like BajaEdition said, that's also what color mine is, that you can check on the VIN. The hood doesn't seem to match the rest of the tub or fenders though.

I guess the question for you is; is it a deal breaker if it isn't really a Golden Eagle ? If it's solid, the frame is good and the engine runs well, does it really matter?

you know, 1970 was decades ago, If you want a Golden Eagle , there is nothing wrong with creating one.
As said we have a few pics in the Editions area. I will look in my encyclopedia to see what they should have had included.

Of course one could make one but at a great expense. I have found a nicer 78 CJ7 with AMC 304 , power disc brakes, auto, Dana 20 transfer and A/C. Just the hard top is no longer with the Jeep. The better deals always just a little to far away and gone before I can make arrangements. At times it sucks living in small town miles from no where.

Redmond is out in the sticks, but it is a beautiful area!

Zombie Thread!!
Did you ever find out if it was actually a Golden Eagle ?

I had a 77 Golden Eagle . 1977 was the only year the decal said "Limited Edition" under the Golden Eagle lettering. It also has all the features everyone's already mentioned but you could get it with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight six. They didn't all come with the V8. Mine had the T-18 in it as well. Also in 77, the Golden Eagle only came in brown just as someone else also mentioned. After that year they came in all kinds of colors but never said Limited Edition again. Curious if you actually found one. I really wish I could find mine. Sold her nearly 25 years ago and have regretted it every day since.

The OP has not been on here, in well over a year.
