Howdy all, well now that 'Black Betty' is running once more I need to address other things. The turn signals recently quit. Both batteries are at 12v +, Headlights, hazard, running and brake lights work, just not the turn signals. Before this issue I added LED indicator lights that worked fine for a couple of months before this failure.
I recall it was something simple the last time this happened, but with all of the Head work and Carb work I've had to contend with I've forgotten.
By the TSM for this '78 apart from loose connections and burned out bulbs is an incorrect flasher, I've verified the connections and grounds and according to the TSM following this "If is no signal at any front, rear or indicator lamp, check the fuse". The flasher has not been disturbed.
My question, where IS the fuse on this '78? The wiring diagram makes no clear reference to it.

Thanks and a lift of the lynch lid for your responses.
Gus

By the wiring diagram in the TSM this represents what my fuse panel looks like;

This is something I learned along time ago and has help'd me out several times over the years.
FYI-Your turn and brake lights are routed through the turn signal switch.
Ign OFF-Try working the turn signal lever up and down about 25-30 times and see if that cleans up the contacts and restores the circuit connection.
Good luck,
LG

Great tip, Thanks LG

Any idea where that fuse is?

If your fuse box is like this.... 15 amp (blue) fuse with "Turn" on label. Our 79 CJ7 has a fuse box like this, but this isn't a picture of ours. All of our fuses are installed right side up... :D

Nope mine looks like the one I posted above - it's for the '78 model year.

Your hazards and your blinkers have different relays so one could work and the other could not. Replace the blinker relay and see if it helps. That green Wagner relay in the top picture looks like it could be the one. That is the one I just changed yesterday on my Jeep.

Sorry about that… I misunderstood your post.

You say the flasher unit has never been touched. So that is the oldest component in the circuit. I would try a new flasher.
Take your old one with you to be sure the connectors are correct.
Good luck,

Thanks for the responses folks,
I can dig that Kane, I saw from the schematic that the Haz circuit has an override link to the turn signal circuit but it is indeed it's own relay and wire.
No harm oldjeeplady, I'm full of brain farts over the last couple of months myself. :p
That seems like a course to take LG but I think there may still be a wiring issue from when I tied all of my grounds to a grounding bus bar. I had some melted wire loom from the carb fire last month and it may be therin that my issue lies. Still, the flasher is quicker and easier to get at so I may do that first. Thanks again folks:chug:

DC power'd flashers do not deal well with 'direct-to-GND' short circuits.
You might want to find a heavy duty flasher built for trailer usage.
Let us know what happens. :chug:
Good luck,
LG

That was it, (in the words of Don Rickles) you win a cookie. ;)

Thanks LG

Now it's on to the pivot bridges on the port side.

Glad you found the issue. :notworthy:
