1980 cj-7 vin ?

Just looked at a 1980 CJ7 . It's a fiberglass body, fenders and hood, hammered the frame looks good, odometer reads 105,000 miles. 6 cyl with auto. Drove it for about 30 minutes, front end is tight which is odd for a CJ by the way and I have two questions(no Tach). This will be my 4th CJ and all my others were stick shifts.
What is top end as far as MPH with the auto Transmission ?
The serial numbers don't match the VIN description, the 3rd letter should be an A for auto and the two other could be F or M. This jeep has a D
Any help?

A lot of these have had things swapped into them this one sounds like it is nowhere near what it was when new.

well at least there wont be any rot in the body, I agree with mtnwhlr no telling whats been swapped in since it already has a fiberglass tub

I also have no idea on the VIN

Someone on another forum already enlightened me that in 1980 only they used different letters for the Transmission .
Believe it or not it looks like an older fiberglass tub and everything seems to work electronically except the radio. There's not a million wires running all over the place like a few other fiberglass tubs I've looked at.
It's a little rough and I'm pretty good mechanically and with wiring so I may even neaten it up some.
