Well, this time I tore apart my tilt steering column. At first I thought I could go in and just replace the backing plate that allows it to tilt but that proved to be impossible (at least for me). So I ended up taking out the whole column. I ordered a direct fit replacement from Summit/ Ididit chrome tilt column part# 1520800020. So right now I am just waiting for the column and I'll post some more pics to let you know how it went.

I haven't taken my tilt column apart yet but will have to soon. The steering wheel wobbles around and obviously needs attention before I can drive it. Is there a bearing or bushing or something in there that goes bad?

theres a bearing in there. If I remember right, there is a thread here somewhere with the part number.

Yeah there are, when I pulled it I had tiny ball-bearings fall out and roll all over the floor. Man I janked that thing up. My Ididit column is supposed to be here Wednesday. Will put up pics and discuss the install soon.

Allright people, The IDIDIT came last week friday night 7:00 pm so no way to install it that night. Got up bright and early Saturday and had a fun filled 2 1/2 hours. Allthough it was a direct bolt on application the wiring was not. I eventually, thru trial and error, found out while I had the wiring correct all along, the stock ground wire provided was way weak! So I bolted on a sturdier one to the harmonica brace. Bingo all done. I saved a fat stack of cash by going with the paintable stainless steel and sprayed a clear coat laquer over it. I think it looks good that way. Also something I want to point out to any future buyers of this column- notice the position of the ignition key setting-its right above your jewels! Strange place for it but there you go. My wife has dubbed it the IDIOT column. Have fun everybody, thanks!
