Anyone have a line on a Power Steering Pump Pulley for an 84 CJ7 AMC 4 Cyl. 2.4L? There was a thread a long ways back where someone tracked one down (Streetside Auto) but they no longer have it.

Flange is broken on mine so I need a replacement. Don't think the 6cyl pulley is interchangeable.

Thanks in advance.

Worth a shot but no go. $275 for a complete unit. (Bracket pump and pulley.) Wonder if I should consider leaving it without a power steering pump all together until one becomes available and then reinstall at that time.

Don't think I would want to drive mine without PS unless I was coming in off the trail to get home

For mechanical reasons (I think the fluid also acts as a lube) or because it would be a struggle/unsafe? Thought I read somewhere on hear some of these didn't have ps.

Run'n w/o the pump is not a good idea.

You might have to resort to the option in post #4, or do a lot of internet searching. I wonder if it could be found in an aftermarket version from one of the big box 4wd outfits. Possibly cross-referenced from another application as I am sure it is not a CJ specific part. The later CJs did use a lot of Ford parts also. You might try getting the dimensions from it and going to a local junkyard and looking around for it. Any chance of straightening the old one?

Jeep p/n is 3237473
The Jeep parts book says for 4cyl, 1981 and later.
This would include the GM Iron Duke GM 151 if the book is correct.
Have you looked for Pontiacs with a GM 151 engine inside ?

Thanks Hagar - that's really helpful. I do thing there is a possibility of using the existing pulley. This shot shows the most damaged angle of the flange. I'm going to a mechanic buddy's house this week to give his puller a try, the setup sounds like it might work, but I thought I'd put a new one in if possible. Didn't think it would be difficult to locate.

If all else fails, try this Dorman part (or junk yard GM vehicles). Was for GM products of the same era. The pump is a GM (among others) part. Don't see why a 6 pulley wouldn't work on a 6.

Dorman part # 300-122

The parts books have been wrong before.....
The 4 cylinder pulley appears to be larger in diameter than the 6 cylinder pulley....from what I was able to dig up.

I just looked at my 84 4 cyl & 85 6 cyl pulley on pumps and they are both close to 5 1/4 ". Can't get exact size because they are both on pumps. I don't have them side by side but they look the same as far as I can tell

The 4 and 6 pulleys are the same size. Some of the 6's have a dual pulley, one small for an air pump I think and the large one for the power steering. I used the 6 cyl dual on my AMC 150 when I converted to power steering. All the PS parts were from a 6 cyl. They all bolted up fine,no mods.

Hopefully it won't come to that but then again I thought sourcing the pulley was going to be easy. Clearly a new Jeep owner. All I heard when I got the thing was "it's a Jeep, you'll always be able to get parts" says the non-Jeep owner.
