Full, tub off restore...to my own specifications =)
Straight 6, 5 speed.
New motor out of a wrecked 1985 CJ7 (Less then 12k original miles on the motor. Runs absolutely awesome!)
Needs some things to pull her together still but its gonna be a fun project!
Just wanted to start off by saying hi to all you CJ guys on this forum! I'm new to the site so it will probably take a little getting used to before I can navigate this thing correctly. So, with that out of the way lets get to my project:
I just recently purchased for what I think to be a great price a 1985 CJ from my grandfather. We like to keep vehicles in the family and I've had my eye on it for a long time..he finally budged
I walked away holding a title $3600 lighter but with a smile on my face. The Jeep has undergone 90% of a full restoration at this point and will require some tlc and tidying up to call her done, but heres what I'm working with..
-Frame has been painted with a por15 like coating to insure that it never sees rot
-Tub fully welded and patched in all places needed. There is literally NO ROT
-Complete undercoating using a tar based coat under the entire tub. No spots missed
-Brand new stock height suspension all around
-Jeep was entirely sprayed International Orange (its growing on me!)
-New seats with purchase including back
-New radio
-5 speed Transmission
-Full steel half doors with NO rust or rot
-This is my favorite part..The original motor was taken out and replaced with an 85 CJ motor...that still only has 12k ORIGINAL miles on it. The damn thing still has AMC spark plug wires. It runs awesome!
The Jeep is 100% drivable as it sits, it just needs finishing up. I unfortunately didnt get a top with it since the soft top was ripped. I did however get the soft doors, bikini top in great shape as well as a in the box brand new black rug for inside.
I will post up some more pictures as soon as the weather gets a little bit warmer since its quite a chilly night out right now but that didn't stop me from driving it home without a top anyway (I'm still cold!)
Any recommendations or comments any of your guys have are welcome and I'll make sure to update as a continue building. Thanks!
