Hello all, I am new here and looking forward to the assistance. I just bought a 85 CJ7 that has been sitting for awhile. I am doing a frame off restoration on it. It has 33’s on it with a 1” body lift..that is going away. It has a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with fuel injection but needs to be rebuilt..any suggestions would be helpful on pistons, rings,valves..etc..manual brake is being replaced with a booster and drums will be converted to disc..also have to retire the CJ7 due to it bring jacked. Let me hear what you guys think should be done and what I should consider.

I forgot it will be towed behind the RV so not going to be a rock crawler but will see mud...

Welcome aboard from Va!! Glad to have you aboard. Be sure and start a build thread so we can all follow along on your journey. Can't offer much advice toward your engine internals.... out of my wheelhouse. But sounds like you have a pretty good start on a plan of attack. I do agree with you on the body lift - I've never been a fan either.... and before Gert hits you up for pics.... WHERE ARE THE PICS LOL.

Seriously - we're all addicted to the pics.... worse than crack!!!

:ww::dbanana::banana:

Your biggest battle will be with getting it past our SMOG tests. :rolleyes:
I suggest you look at Moser 1 piece axles for the rear. ;)
If there are any jeep clubs in you A/O. I would contact them for info on local engine rebuild.
I have a great place about 50 miles from me, if it comes down to it.

When you do your front disc swap, give Horsepower Sales, LLC a call. I used him for my disc swap on my 76 CJ5 , and I highly recommend his kit. He sells through ebay, but you can use the ol' google machine to get his phone number to ask him anything you want about his kit.

It was a quick and easy install. About 2 hours from teardown to back on the road again.

Make sure you get a new master cylinder and proportioning valve designed for disc/drum brakes, or you're going to have issues.

I ran all new brake lines for good measure. I had a blowout on a rear brake line a couple months before I did the swap, and I didn't want that to happen again.

He must be talking about the rear because '85 only came with disc in the front.

Yep..only the rear has drums....but the front are seized up..but I am going to either rebuild or replace whatever needs to be done.

Keep updating us on your project!
