Does anyone recognize this aftermarket ignition system on my 1986 CJ7 ? I accidently pulled the wires loose that connect from the ignition box to the distributor plug. There is a label that has overspray on it but it looks like www.procompelectronics. I was hoping to get support from manufacturer.
Thanks

That looks a lot like the Procomp 2115 PC6AL CDI unit.

All those high tech ignition boxes will fail on you. You guessed it, out on the trail, miles from home.

Yes I used to run a couple MSD 6 boxes, ACCEL 300+ Racing ignitions and such on mine. Returns, repairs and such, I looked for an alternative, failure proof system. Simplictic robust system easy to get back on the road IF it ever failed.

Found a write up on it. Quick parts required are below.

1.Stock OEM Ford Duraspark distributor. Came in my 1983 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I-6.
2.Big Ford distributor cap and adapter. MSD Super Conductor ignition wires at 50 Ohms per foot.
3.1980 Corvette HEI ignition module. Get the real deal AC Delco part. Don't dare shop on Amazon or Ebay...... Get the real OEM part. and get a spare while you are at it.
4.They make an aluminum heat sink for the HEI module. Get one and some computer thermal paste. Goop the HEI modue to the heatsink. Mount heatsink/module to the firewall away from exhaust pipes and such. Even better inside the cab.
5.Simple 20 amp relay FUSED off the battery will feed the HEI module. Use heavy wire enough to support 10+ amps 24/7.

Simple bump of the key and she fires off. Easy 12 years now and not one failure.

I agree. Any and all aftermarket ignition systems will fail early in life, doesn’t matter the brand. The good news is that you don’t need any of those boxes. OEM HEI/Duraspark systems are very effective and reliable. Speaking from experience, I thought they would make the engine run better, not the case. Using that heat conductive paste on the module is a must.
