2" Harbor Freight Strap

Im bored so im going to ramble a little bit :D

they break but its difficult. they are kinda like phone books. it almost impossible to pull one in half but its easy if you do it page by page. I haven't ever straight up broke a new one but if you dont take care of them they will let you down. If dirt/mud gets in the strap it will wear it and weaken it over time so keep them clean and out of the weather (same as rope) I have broke 3 and 2 of them in vehicle recovery but both were farm used straps and had been dirty and used. aslo keep an eye out for frays where something might have started a cut it or rubbed it in use (phonebook situation). over all they are strong as hell and for the price you cant afford not to have one lol. If you snap one in good shape you need to reconsider what your doing haha. I have used them with tractors and even playing with big trucks dragging each other in parking lots back in high school lmao. The third one i broke was when i was pulling an ole rusted spreader out a big dirt bank and the mettle basically cut the strap but i don't think that situation counts as breaking them. Moral of the story is they are as strong as you think, if taken care of, and for the price there is no reason you shouldn't have one laying around, i know i always will. :chug:

i think my buddy might still have a vid of my old tahoe snapping one back in the woods trying to pull out a pickup that was bottomed in tractor ruts. when it broke its was really loud like i had hit a tree or something and i freaked and jumped out of my tahoe and went to see what happened and the strap had broke on one of the ends.

What I meant to focus on is the 6000# rating. Keeper brand 2" is rated at 20,000#.

I wouldn't use 6000# on my ATV. . .

I did see a Harbor Freight 8000# winch explode. Makes for good photo ops.

I won't use those straps. They rate the max pull without any amount of overage. I have seen several break. A good strap usually can handle much more then the rated load.

Just my opinion - take it or leave it... :)

Ok I'll go the other way...
I've got a Wal-Mart special very similar to that one, 6000 rate and everything. I've pulled numerous trucks and cars out of the ditch during the last couple year's snow storms, and a few of my buddies out of where they shouldn't have been.
Never failed on me yet.
The trick is to know your tool, and using it wisely. Don't just hook it up and stomp the throttle, take the slack out and gently pull the vehicle out. If you have to use it as a snatch strap, get something else (the right tool for the job).

One of my favorite straps is my D-9 Cat strap. Yea its just what it sounds like...Talk about NO stretch! LOL I'll try to remember to grab a pic of it this weekend and post it for ya all. It never fails to make jaws drop when I hook it to my Jeep and start walking towards their stuck rig!
