O.K. GUYS , I have a 84 Laredo and would like to lift it 2"to 2.5".what would you all suggest ? there are so many brands out there what do you all like and why. I would like to do this in my garage with my son so keep that in mind.

A lift kit brand. wow that is going open a can of worms
get the Skyjacker kit
or find a BDS kit

The only thing I have to add is about the install. If you don't have a compresser and an air wrench, get one.
Buy it , borrow it, whatever you need to do.
you can take the old hardware off with a saws all but the new U-bolts are fine thread with lock nuts and they are about two feet long, it seems. If you have to do this with a ratchet and deep socket you are in for a major work out.
other than that, a floor jack and a couple of jack stands, and a weekend to do it in.
It should not take two days but schedule the time in case Murphy drops in.:D

Old man Emu, superlift, Rubicon Express. There are a lot to choose from, and all the well known ones are good. OME will probably give you the best ride, so you are going to need to decide who gives you the best bang for your buck.

The whole story is I need to replace my shocks and my springs are shot. Well it is 1.5" lower on the drivers side so I was told it probably is the springs. So if I need to replace the springs why not install the 2.5" lift and get the look I want.I was told that the YJ springs are wider and offer a better ride. But I am still reading up on what needs to be done to do the switch. If it is really worth the $$ spent on it. I would like to have a smooth ride well as smooth of a ride that I can in a jeep. I am not a hard core jeeper but do like to go up in the woods and drive the road usually I am hunting and the roads up here can get real muddy and rutty at times.

In my opinion, for the money, just get some OME springs and shocks, or BDS. They are a direct bolt in, and no fab work needed. To get the YJ spring ro work, you need to change the front spring hanger, and replace the shackles. That would give you a nice ride, OME is very well known for their ride quality.

I do have a shop compressor and the air tools for it so that is one good thing. But if I get OME stuff that will take it back to the stock height right ?

I forgot OME good stuff. They actually are not in the "lift Business" they are in the improved suspension department. What that means is they make suspensions that work, and work well for the Australian outback where breakdown is not an option. Good products, I really like their shocks
You will not find them doing tall lifts as they do what works everyday, in and out, going where you please. They are not interested in trail rigs as such, just vehicles you can use.
(can't tell I have spoken to a rep or two at an off road show)
so judge it from there I guess and about those 2 foot long u bolts, Where in the (*%& did you find some that short?

Very good. I would be interested to hear how much that lift settles over time (all lifts settle some). I had a RE lift on my TJ that only settled about 1/2", but I have heard of other manufacturers that settled a lot more.

so why not Rough Country? is it a personal thing or are there many problems with them? is the RC a rough ride? Please expand your statement. I just bought that one... Haven't put it on yet. But I'm looking for a cheap lift. that was in my budget. I got the better shocks... does that make a difference?

Rough Country are cheep and very hard riding springs. Most people do not like them.

I am very happy with my Rough Country 2.5 lift I recently installed on my 85 CJ7 . My jeep has been my daily driver over the summer and I am very impressed with the ride quality. Rough Country, changed there springs a couple years ago due to complaints in ride quality. The kit was a snap to put in and came with shocks for under $500 dollars. If I was buy another lift kit, I would not hesitate to buy another Rough Country product. I wish people would quit slamming this company they are making a good product now at a fantastic price.

Cheers, Brian
