I have just completed upgrading my 77 CJ7 single barrel to a 2 barrel intake and a 2150 carb from Gronk. It fired right up and purred like a kitten. I am having one major problem however. When I try to drive it, it wants to stall out when I give it any throttle. In neutral, it is a smooth as can be. In gear, it will drive fine when idling only. As soon as I give it any throttle, it looses power. It almost seems to me like it is not getting enough gas??? I have no idea what to do at this point.
Please help!
Thanks,
Brad

An issue like that could be the carb accelerator pump is out of adjustment. This will allow raw gas into the carb when you open the throttle. If you open the throttle as you look down the carb throat, you should see gas squirting down the carb, maybe you just need some more.

Fuel filter the right one and on correctly?

Even though it seems like a new Carb. should run right out of the box, most of the time they don't. You need to make sure the jetting is correct and at the very least you need to set the float level. The float is easy to set. The accelerator pump and the power valve are also good candidates to check.

The accelerator pumps are working. They are probably not the issue since it stalls out even if I press the accelerator very slowly. The fuel filter is right. I made no adjustments to the carb. I bought it as a kit from the guy that many on this forum seem to use. I assumed that it would be setup already for my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I was very clear when I ordered it what it was going on.

I am not sure what to check related to the float adjustment, power valve and main jets.
Thanks.

Being this carb is out of the box. I would contact the carb builder. They may be able to go straight to the problem. It's entirely possible they could have sent you the wrong carb? I'd call them instead of beating my head against the wall. Just my opinion.

I think this is very good advice.

Check the venturi size
You will find the number in a circle on side of carb.
Should be 1.08

I discovered the problem last week with my new carb. I wanted to give Gronk a chance to respond before I posted anything about it. Unfortunately, I have not gotten a response to multiple emails, text messages and phone messages. It appears that the one venturi fell out of the carb. I am not a carb expert and I don't know if this is something that I can easily fix myself. I am very disappointed in the Gronk guy for not responding at all. I may take action thru eBay. I spent top dollar so that I would have something that worked. I am pretty sure that this did not fall apart initially, but I would think it was not working right. It was after about 10-20 min of running the engine that the throttle seemed to be unable to open. It was then that I discovered the part had fallen off. I am just hoping no small parts went into my engine.

That's very disappointing. You spend good money to assure a quality part and you get basically junk. I wouldn't blame you for taking action.

Can the venturi be extracted and pressed back in place? It looks like they were both peened in place, but that one didn't take and popped out. You are lucky it didn't get sucked down into the intake.

Wow now thats un usual..... you def want to go thru ebay since you spent good money on it

I spent some time deciding on how to recover from this junk carb from Gronk falling apart. I have decided for sure that I will return the carb and buy another. Due to a lack of response from him, I will likely have to go thru the Ebay resolution center. Very disappointing.

I am looking at some different carbs now and would love some input from those more experienced. I really don't have the time or knowledge to go buy a used one and rebuild it. I saw this one and thought that it would be good since it was from a similar sized Ford engine.
1980 FORD LINCOLN MERCURY CARBURETOR MOTORCRAFT 2150 2BBL 4.2/5.0L V8 #180-6625 | eBay

The seller recommends this ones since it is from a jeep.
1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 - 90 AMC 2150 CARBURETOR JEEPs w/304-360c.i.#180-7081 | eBay

The seller says both at 1.08 venturi size. The jeep one though is from a AMC 304 -360. Mine is a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Any concerns with this one related to jets or power valves? I really don't know what I am doing with carb internals, but I need to get my jeep back on the road.

Also, there are some remans at Summit for a decent price. They are a very close by and I could pick up one of those after work. There are a bunch to chose from, all from a 232CI. This is one of them.

Again, I would appreciate some input from those who have work with these Ford carbs before.
Thanks,
Brad
