1984 CJ7 only mod motorcraft 2bbl no emissions on it after a fire, 195? CJ3B project have not start on it yet
Just got an old jeep with a 231 v-6 in it. Will probably need to be rebuilt. From the casting number it is a 1975/76. Can i use the heads from a 1982 on it. If that will work i have a 4bbl manifold to go with the heades. Thanks for the help.

The pre 1977 231's were odd fire engines. I think if I were going to go to the trouble of rebuilding, I would build a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . The best hp rating for a 231 was 110. A stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l will yield around 130hp and 220ft lbs. Now, modern 3.8's that are even fire are much smoother engines. If I remember correctly, 1975 to 1978 231 intakes are interchangeable.

could always throw in a 4.3 can find them a dime a dozen :D

the 231 is not as nice of an engine as the 225, so if you are going do a lot of parts buying go with a larger unit. The 225 has tons of torque that the 231 never developes. you can get a more modern vs and it rocks.
