Can you take the oilpan off with no problems in the chassis?

you can but your still going to have to raise eng about 8 inches so it clears cross member and clears the crank

I just pull eng makes life easier

You definately need to remove the cross member just below it, only two bolts very easy. The bigger issue is the RH motor mount needs to be removed. The pan is a nightmare to get in and out with out removing, and with wet sealant, gaskets during install just turns into a mess. Experience.
Support engine under oil pan skid plate with jack to just take the weight off mount, undo large single nut on mount stud, then jack up a little more to verify all weight is on jack. remove three bolts that hold upper mount bracket to engine. With some wiggling here and there should come out. Remove the starter, which will expose a flat surface on the engine block just next to the oil pan. Use this to support your engine with a jackstand on some wood blocks. Remove jack from under oil pan to allow stand to support and free up the pan. Now youll be able to drop it straight down. Dont forget to chock your wheels, set E brake. Def dont want her rolling with that stand under the engine.
