1985 CJ7 new to me and getting her set up. 360 V8
Ok, so I am VERY new to old jeeps, well making changes. I have always loved the old CJ's and came across a good deal on a jeep in great shape. I want to lift it but am being told by the person where I was going to get the work done that I can only put a 2.5" lift or a 4" lift on an 85 CJ7 . Is this correct? I wanted a 3" lift since I am short and a 4" is just a pain in the *** for me to get in and out of (I am a female). I welcome any information on this. Thank you,

Most lift height purposes are for tire clearances. Such as a stock height will be good for a 31" tire and a 4" with modifications can handle a 35" tire. A 4" lift requires a bit more than a set of springs whereas a 2.5" can get by usually with just a spring change. There also many options for steps to help get into a lifted CJ.

Perhaps you could add a 1/2" body lift to your 2.5" suspension. Or shackles that will give you that extra 1/2"?

That was my thought also.

Black diamond use to make a 3" lift, not sure if they still do though.

Thank you. These are great thoughts that I will discuss with the people doing the work.

They may be trying to push the brand they carry and it only comes in those sizes. As mentioned, Warn has a 3" lift. I used it briefly and it articulated very well. Shocks weren't too bad either. Here's a few pics with 33s. Tell us more of your plans like tire size, usage (street/trail/rocks) and we can advise better.
