Finally got the rebuild complete and the rebuilt carb installed. Cold natured as all are but not really having a cold natured problem. Manual choke installed and after having a "Carb" guy tune on it it will start and idle fine. It will run wide open fine but when you slow down or gear down and then get back into it it will "hiccup" or sputter really bad. It is starving for fuel? I crossed over the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l fuel line and the carb guy said it did not seem to be filling the bowl like it should.

any ideas?

I am not a carb person so I may need some assistance so bare with me. Is there a pressure gauge available to put inline to check pressure? I have an electric inline fuel pump I could install to see if that helps but I really don't like electic pumps. Should I bypass the manual pump and run the electric only or just add inline?

Installing an electric fuel pump to a carbed engine that only requires about 4 psi has no advantages. Fuel pressure can be checked along the fuel pump outlet line into the carb. Setting the float level is critical to carb operation, There will be instructions in any Jeep CJ repair manual. Checking fuel pressure and the float level/needle & seat will only make sure that you are getting the right amount of fuel into the carb.

Do you still have the return line to the tank off the fuel filter?
