33's on a 3 inch lift ?

THE PLAN : I intend to do a suspension lift on my CJ7 ...
2.5 INCH BDS lift with 1/2 inch HD shackles so a 3 inch lift...
? QUESTION ? Just want to be sure I can go to a 33 inch tire with that lift and use my stock 15 inch wheels... SO 33x ?? x15
current tires are 31x1050x15 and off road will be occassional ...THANKS

I used to run 33x12.50x15 BFGs on my first '83 CJ7 with a totally stock suspension. I don't see why you can't run that with a 3" lift.
YOu can put a 12.5" wide tire on a 7 inch rim, but it will bulge the tires sidewalls out. An 8" rim will work better in the long run. A cheap set of steelies will get you by until you can get those bling wheels you have your eye on!

2.5 to 3 inch is the norm for the 33 inch tires. You will be fine.

I think you may need to go with 8" wide wheels to get enough off set to avoid rubbing the tire on the fender well it a tight turn.

Stock rims are too skinny and 33x11.50x15 inch tires are ugly. You need an 8 inch or even better a 10 wide rim for the 33x12.50x15 tires.

mine are stock 15x8 wagon wheels its a 1985 though, don't know if there will be a difference

I know that was some debate about it on another site Im on. Id have to look it up. Later Cjs had 8 in. wide rims stock. The argument was over the cutoff year where the earlier ones were 7 in. wide.

cut a yard stick 15 inches long, long enough to go from one side of the rim to the other and measure from the lug bolt surface to the yard stick on both sides. this gives you the width and the off set.
