can any one tell me if you need longer brake lines on the front of a 78 CJ5 when you install a new 4 inch lift and what else is needed to do the job . i have a 2inch on it right now , i just whant to make shur that i get every thing i need .:confused:thanks

I did a 4" on at 79 CJ5 and did have to replace the front brake lines. Other things can come into play requiring new lines as well, like shackle lift or brand of spring (amount of spring droop - less leaf straps that hold the pack together etc)

Best to install and measure when jacked up. Springs will droop even more when jumping too.

hey thank you for the info. i hope it will drop down a littel this lift is very high . i have the rough country 4 inch lift witch went on nice . but this is a very tall lift . i have 33 on right now and with this lift i can very easy put 35 inch tires with a lot of room to spare . this is a lot higher then my 2 inch lift i took off . im still waiting on some parts be for i can drive it so can any one tell me how the rough country 4 inch lift rides and handles . :D hey thank you for the info

Did that kit come with the drop pitman arm? My 78 CJ5 needed one with the 4in kit.

no i need to get one that is one of the parts that i order to day . but since you have done the lift be for can you give me any more info or any other parts i will need. wood be very help full . i have the front of the jeep done and im doing the rear to night so im shur that i will be needing some other kind of parts for the rear thanks for geting back to me

The rear will need axle wedges as well. Mine also had a Transfer Case drop with it as well. Its been so long since I did that lift I dont remember the degree of wedges to use but maybe someone else does.

where are you guys getting brake lines from? I'm trying to not spend tons of money finishing my lift and I thought there was a half ton truck that had some decently long lines, just can't find the info right now.

If you take your old line to NAPA and ask them to pull out the spec book, you can see what length they have or can order.

If you want stainless, they will make them any length you want with any end you need.

let me no if you find cheap brake lines to
Cheap and Brake Lines should not be used in the same sentence (IMHO). Your brakes are the ONE thing that protects yourself and others...

I got new braided lines after one of mine broke at the top of a mountain. I thought the originals would be long enough but I was dead wrong. Almost killed my wife and I. Some things you can skimp on but brakes are not one! Get the longer lines and put a couple of carb springs thru them and attach to your frame, it will keep them from hanging up on a tire lug when the wheel is tucked up in the wheel well. I was told a Wrangler pitman arm will work if you file 3 grooves in the flat spots on the arm where it goes onto the steering box and give you a 3 1/2 inch drop. I have never seen it and don't know for sure if it is fact. I would really check thing out before I done that also.

Buying brake lines doesn't have to cost $100+ to be considered safe.
