I recently saw a late 50's-early 60's CJ5 with 4 rear leaf springs (2 per side). I have scoured the net and asked the local 4x4 shop, no ideas. I thought it might have been one of the post war jeeps used with farm impliments or for mining. The jeep also had a strange V8, the owner of the recking yard had no information or history on it, it did not look like anything I have seen before as in Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler/Dodge. At first I thought it was a transplant, but there were no tell-tales of any kind of fabrication. I am most interested in the quad spring suspension.

Most likely someone took spring leaves out to atempt to make it ride better.

While I might agree with the above in certain cases I cant here because thos early jeeps used 8-10 leaf spring pack that barely kept the fenders over the tires and going down to just 2 of them would make a serious lowridder although it would have a cushy ride. :)

:)I believe "Muddoc" is saying 2 complete leaf spring packs per side......not two individual separate springs per side............or at least that is how I read it.

:D:D:D:D

The military used CJ's back in the day that were equipped to move heavy equipment. I cant remember their designation, but the suspension was heavily built...some using helper springs along with double digit packs.

Go back and get pics. Id like to see the setup your talking about. :) Cjs ended up equipped with backhoes , trenchers , booms... never saw a dual leaf spring set up to support the weight though.
