55cj5 steering bell crank repair

I just installed new steering bell crank & repair kit from KaiserWillys. When done the steering was very stiff. I took it all apart and found the bell crank shaft nut was way too tight. Where can I find detailed instructions on how to do this job right??? I have the shop manual and it is no help. Thanks
