2 - 1974 CJ5's. Both with 304 v8's. One lifted with 37" tires, the other is stock.
I was wondering about aftermarket steering wheels for a 74 CJ5 . What is everyone using? Does anyone have experience with the aftermarket "universal fit" wheels, and do they usually bolt up ok without lots of mods and fabrication? I would like some ideas and opinions. Thanks.

Do you have power steering? What about the original column?
Yeah, both my CJ5 's have power steering. One of my cj's already has a newer column from a GM truck. My yellow cj has the original thin column with a big ugly wheel. Since I have power steering, I was thinking about getting a smaller wheel with some padding and a sporty look. Have you installed an aftermarket wheel on a 74 column, and was it simple to bolt up?

I didn't install it, but I have a Grant (I think) wheel on my '74. The horn has never worked, but I think that is because the PO never hooked it up.
Sorry I can't give you any install details, I've never had it off the column.

I like the idea of the S10 tilt column. They are a dime a dozen. Do they bolt right in fairly easily? And what year S10 is the best to get one from? I would assume late 80's or early 90's because of clockspring and multifunction switch issues. I don't care about horns, but a smaller wheel and tilt column would make it easier getting in and out.
