Hello, I have a CJ5 that cant drive straight, steering kinda gets hard then releases then veers off in whatever direction it's pointing. it has new tires and are aligned. Tie Rod End all good, Im guessing a bad steering pump. Any advice thanks.
I'm going to guess that it's the steering box. I had one do the same thing. Believe it or not, Most American made cars have the same steering box. Some with different ratios.

Agree that it's a front axle u-joint. Classic symptom. Joint is tight on one axis, loose on the other. Jack up front end, turn wheel to stops, lock in hub, and spin wheel. I'll bet it's all creaky and groany
