Installed 4" Rough Country lift. All finished except installing 1" bushings to lower the Transfer Case . removed 6 bolts and started lowering the Jack but it seems to be hanging up. does the gear shifters need to be taken loose or what am I missing? Anyone got any advice? Thanks

Does your exhaust have a clamp support attached to the skid plate?

Did you check your yoke angles?

Not all lifts need the spacers. Or better yet, put a double Cardan driveshaft on. 4" lifts are real hard on rear ujoints.

The constant velocity or double cardan driveshaft is probably the best way to go. I finally put one on my CJ5 . However, you may be able to get away with it. The purpose of lowering the tcase is to match the angle of the rear axle.

The goal is to have the output of the tcase and the rear axle yoke parallel to each other. This is intended so that the ujoint splits the angle evenly and therefore operates balanced and vibration free. If the angle is uneven, it will really start shaking at any speed over 5mph or so.

So, did you shim the rear axle upward as part of your installation? If so, shim the tcase down at the same angle. You can check this with a couple of long carpenter squares. It will at least tell you if you are in the ballpark and which way to shim it.

When you lower the T case it causes the clutch bellcrank to go out of alignment and also reduces the head to firewall clearance to nil.
Do the double cardan drive shaft and leave the T case alone.
