I am hoping that this post keeps at least one person from feeling as stupid as I did last night.

I was in the process of removing the tub on a 1979 CJ5 and learned a few valuable lessons the hard way.

1. Using a sawsall on rusted body mounts is a PITA. That rubber is like glue. Instead just use a grinder and take the bolt head off:bang:

2. Lifting from the rollbar is not the best place to lift from.:bang:

3. The one that made me feel the dumbest was after trying and trying to get the steering shaft to disconnect at the knuckle in front of the firewall. What I did was loosen the bolt and pb blasted it for a couple of days, it was loose but just wouldnt come apart. I tried everything except one. Yup you guessed it, take the bolt all the way out dummy. The shaft is grooved, live and learn:eek:

i wish i could say that i haven't done any of those myself.

OK I have to ask- what happened here? Pulled the roll bar off?

Bingo CJ. Lifting from the rollbar is no where near the center of balance on the tub. If there were two people present it would have not been that big of deal.

Tonight I finally got to the goods of the jeep the reason that I picked it up. I have the t18a sitting on my trailer awaiting a good cleaning and possible rebuild before it gets put in my 80 CJ5 .

BTW what is a good running AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6 out of a 79 CJ5 worth??
