hello there. This is what I know:
Complete cluster is new. Fuel and water temp gauges do not work. I got the jeep with new gauges installed but none hooked up. Wires were very well marked as well as old gauges with color codes on them...

Sending Unit
I have 20 ohms (probably 3/4 of a tank) coming from the sending wire of the fuel sending unit. I have a good ground to the fuel sending unit (I wired it direct to a good ground).

Fuel Gauge
Has a pink wire to the upper left terminal (as looking at the back of the gauge), has a jumper to the water temp gauge on the middle terminal, and has a red wire to the upper right terminal. This gauge is supposed to be new so i am assuming it works (have a new one as well).

Question
Is there any way to DIRECTLY wire the sending unit to the gauge to make sure there are no breaks in the line?
Does anyone know where the pink and red wires go from the gauge?

I have found over the years than 90% of DC electrical troubles are related to bad grounds.
If you are using a 12 volt test light, remember it is grounded and can cause a false reading on your test you are trying to preform.

This has to be the single best piece of information that I have found on the net. I really appreciate it. Very easy to follow and step by step. I have solved my issue. I read SO much about bad grounds. I did everthing minus running new wires. The simple cause was the fuse. 3 days of trying on my own, 5 minutes with your instructions. THANKS

CSBlack, I, too, am suffering no TEMp readings and no FUEL LEVEL in my 1980 CJ7 . I have been thru the document but never actually reached a conclusion. Had the dash off and worked with due diligence all the way through troubleshooting. But I must have missed the part that hit on a blown fuse.

What fuse, please? Where? In the fuse panel, or elsewhere?

Appreciate any info you may have gleaned as an outcome from your hard work.

And like you, I don't think I have a grounding problem.
