Hello everyone, new jeep owner. I've wanted a CJ7 since my teens, life has finally reached the point where an impractical vehicle makes sense.

So I'm going through the brakes and the front caliper seems odd, as in they may not be the correct calipers. The front ears that i would think keep it in the bracket don't appear to be long enough. The rear tab is seated under the bracket.
Do these look correct? pics attached

Caliper also seems to hang downward at an angle to the point where it rubbed the outer edge of the disc, partially due to the wheel bearing slop.

Also what is the torx drive for the guide pins, had a T40 (too small) and T55(too big)

While I have it up in the air the DS bearing has some play in it, going to check the bearing preload and IIRC it's a 2-1/16" correct?

:ww::dbanana::banana:

Those calipers look fine.
My caliper bolts are Allen(7mm IIRC).
It's either 2 1/16 or 2 1/8. My CRS is in bloom.:D
A FSM would help you much here.

^^^^ What LG said. Those calipers look pretty good. The guide pin on my 81 takes an allen head as well.

Try 'Ol Jeep Collins' page for a downloadable FSM, you can get it at this link: http://oljeep.com/gw/79_tsm/79_Jeep_TSM.pdf It's a pretty big file because it is the FSM complete.

Thanks for the input and the FSM link.

The spindle nuts mic'd at 2-1/8".

I got one off with a gentle tap of a screw driver only to find no lock washer.
Didn't get any deeper into the spindle, instead tackled the rear drums - what little was left of them. New wheel cylinders are in and shoe kit should be here today.

Do you have a FSM? If not-get one ASAP.
There's no lock-washer between the 2 spindle nuts.
There's a oversize flat washer the you bend against the flats of the spindle nuts.
The inner nut is hand tighten to about 5 ft/lbs torque at most, AFTER you first torque the inner nut to about 40-50 ft/lbs to seat the bearings.
The outer nut is torqued to 50 ft/lbs.

Don't have an FSM yet, I've done several Dana front axle rebuilds over the years.
I mis-stated on "lock washer" meant what you stated above. Hopefully its under the first nut.

On the FSM front, I downloaded the manual link above (1037 pages) I'd likely just purchase an general manual any preference on Haynes/Chilton?

The Haynes manual is good for general reference but I have found the FSM to be more useful when working on my CJ. The FSM shows more what "right looks like" as we said in the Army.
