85 Air conditioning problem

Summer is here in Florida and the AC would be nice. When I turn it on the engine starts to sputter after a few minutes making it undrivable. I'm thinking a fan clutch problem or the condenser. Any ideas?

Is the engine temp going up?? I would think that would be a good indication of if the head pressure was high, with out putting a guage in it.
