hey,

i have a few questions about the carb on my 85 2.5l engine. first of all, what type of carb is it, as the haynes manual doesnt say for sure. can i remove the charcoal canister? if yes, do i just plug the lines or what? also, what breather or vacuum hoses must stay on the carb? its running really rough at idle and dies until its thoroughly hot so there may be a vacuum problem or its running very rich since you can smell fumes badly after you turn it off. but i dont know which tubes are mandatory to be hooked up and where they go and what they hook into. thanks for any help.

im not sure about 85 but mines an 80 and it has a rochester carb. i had problems with the carb getting filled up with charcoal from the canister. the line that goes from the can to the carb can be blocked off. my canister still has all the lines running to it but the big one is not hooked up to anything. there is only two vaccum lines hooked up to my acual carb. one for the pcv valve, and one for the distributer. that and gas line of course. all the other vaccum lines on mine hook up to the intake manifold. you might check and see if your carb is full of little black bits of charcoal.

hey, thanks for the info. I believe i will completely remove the canister and trace all tubing to the source and see if its needed. I am really only concerned with any necessary vacuum lines, as that will affect how the little engine runs. thanks again for the help.

also, after more looking through the haynes manual, I believe it has the YFA carb.
