85 cj7 steering is erratic

just as of recent my steering has become an issue, it works great for a few days, then all of a sudden it delays when i make a turn and when it comes back its all over the place...has plenty of fluid, ujoints seem ok, is this the steering box itself , pump etc...thanks for your help...

Steering geometry is quite a can of worms, the steering box is always the last resort. From your description, I would guess the pump, due to its inconsistancy in operation. There is some web info out about steering box adjusting, not sure about just how to check a pump though.

Thanks torx, ill look into it, the pump was whining a couple moths back, due to low fluid, there is some small leakage around the steering box itself too...
