I am trying to replace the upper bearing assembly. I have gotten the shaft loose but can't remove it? Is there a trick I am missing? Does the shaft telescope or is it fixed? Pic attached. Bearing replacement should be easy if I can only remove the shaft.

Mine wouldn't come off either. Very close but no cigar. I loosened the steering box just a little after already just replacing a new HD steering box bracket
If I remember correctly, there is a plastic pin that prevents the shaft from telescoping...... and it’s plastic so that in the even of a frontal impact, the steering shaft will collapse and not become a spear. I believe it’s location is here:
And I think I drilled mine out to collapse it during removal........ probly should put one back in........ works fine without it......
