Hello, I have recently purchased a 1986 CJ7 with the straight 6. The original key was messed up and the previous owner had mounted a universal key switch under the dash. Well I decided that i was going to replace the original ignition and after replacing the key switch on the column i went to reconnect the wires to the ignition module at the base of the steering column and that is when i realized that the previous owner had cut off the wiring connector and now i don't have any idea as to which wire connects to which prong on the ignition switch. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

your asking which color wire? or which connnector on the ignition switch mounted on the mid column?

Take a look at the "Docs" tab on near the top of the homepage, click on it, look for "CJ7 " and then look near the bottom of the list, it says "factory service manual", its the 84-86 manual, see if the info your looking for isnt spelled out for you in there,....

The CJ steering column is basically a GM......double checking last night the part number for the ignition switch is also the same ( 77 chvy C10 and 86 cj)

go to a PYP and find a cherokee, pull the connector from the ignition and cut it off as long as you can. take it home and match the wire colors. The FSM and diagrams are still a must have but the connector will beat the hand full of 1/4 inch stake ons hands down.:D

Thanks for all of your help everyone. The column is the same as a chevy but the colors of the wires are different. I believe that i will go ahead and try to find an old Cherokee and use the one that comes on them. Hopefully that will be the same color as the ones that are on these jeeps.
