87 yj links

Not really sure but maybe you could cross reference part numbers? Maybe look up a beefier one like the Big Daddy setup and see if 82-86 uses the same as 87-95?

Sometime during the YJ run, The drag ling was changed from the early YJs. That's all I know about it.

YJ axles are wider and the steering components are more robust. It would be nice if they can be interchanged. Someone will bring up details.

well i have the steering box and steering links from yj so at this point it's gonna eventually be put in and given a go unless someone has some info for me.

I am not familiar with the YJ steering box characteristics but I used one from a 98ish 4x4 Durango/Dakota. It bolts in and features shorter and sporty (and more dangerous) end to end. Some even have variable ratio. Of course, this is hydro assist, not sure what you have. You might consider it.

The YJ box will bolt in. The ratio might be a little different tho. A lot of Jeep and Dodges used the same GM steering box. I have a Durango box in my YJ. A friend has a grand cherokee box in his 81 CJ. Ratios are different, but they fit.

Your CJ steering shaft end where it connects to the steering box will be different for the YJ box. CJ's used a bell coupler and YJ's used a U-joint connection. The splined shaft coming out of the steering box is a different diameter and spline count i do believe. You can't use a YJ steering shaft either because Yj use a rag joint at column and Cj's use a u-joint...
