I have removed my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l for replacement with a rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . She has a Turbo 350 tranny. There's an adapter in the crank that centers the torque converter in the crank. Anyone know how to remove the adapter?
Thanks

The easiest way is to drill a hole in the center as large as you can.
Pack the bushing with grease.
Find a dowel or a piece of metal that fits the bushing (wrap the with electrical tape if necessary to make a tight fit).
When you hammer on the dowel it will cause the grease to try and compress, but since it cannot the bushing is forced out of the crank.
This also works for pilot bushings.

Thanks CJ. I was basically told that last night, except I was told to tap the hole and install a grease zerk. Guess what, the friggin' tap broke off flush with the hole. Advanced Adapters, (I found out this morning), makes the kit to install the 350 behind a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I have e mailed them and hopefully I can purchase the crank bushing.
Thanks for the help buddy!!

Purchased a new crank bearing from Advance Adapters today. President of Delaware Jeep <-BAD WORD->. found it.
Thanks for the help CJ!
Famous last words " I Shall Return", every time I have a problem.
Oh, I now have an 87 Wrangler YJ-7. The new engine is out of an 86 CJ7 .
