Couple weeks back I sold my 79 Bonco I'd had for almost 20 years. On the way home my wife & I stopped to look at this little feller.

It followed us home. Then the wife claimed him. I just get to do the work. Been sitting a field for 30ish years.

Specs:
1969 Jeep CJ5 .
Dauntless Buick 225 V6 225 V6.
T-14 3speed Transmission .
Dana 18 Transfer Case (and an extra spice marked case).
Dana 27 front. Probably 3:73 gears I've been told.
Dana 44 rear. Tapered axles. Gears to match the front.
Random rubber for now.

Hadn't run since the 90's when we brought him home, the wiring was scary. I gutted most of the harness now. Ran a hot wire to the coil pack & a remote starter switch. Replaced the fuel pump & ran a hose to a can. Checked the oil. Added coolant. Plugs and wires.

Fired right up. Despite the carb needing rebuilt. Still gonna rebuild the motor. But at least it not toast.

More to follow.

I really am starting to think that jeep transmissions have a genuine hatred for me.

I'm not real sure if this one is better or worse looking than the T-176 did in the 83.

But at least I've got the tools on hand to rebuild it now. That's a good thing right? I hope.

Just a lack of oil / maintenance, not hate.

I know it's not hate, more like bad initial luck.

This Transmission maybe salvageable yet. I need to get it on the bench for a tear down & inspection.

I plan to keep the steelies, I'm very fond of them now. Gonna get painted a cream color I think, with I'm hoping 31x10.50'15 on them. I've been forbidden from going big.

I did start tearing things down the other day. Got all the homemade tow bar :dung: pulled off. Which was a dramatic improvement in looks.

Hacked out most the wiring. Kina surprising the he didnt catch fire & burn the first time I hooked the battery up. The plan has been to replace the harness from the get go.

Pulled the windscreen & front clip in preperation of pulling the motor. I must say that I am now in love with the early hood and windscreen hinges. Those things are amazingly simple. Must get a set for the 83. Got the tins off the Transmission tunnel while I was at it. Only had to cut half the bolts.

Steering column is half broken down by the box. Not a very recent break either.

Frame has a crappy repair on the passenger side front. Just behind the forward spring hanger.

Missing a wheel cylinder entirely on the front drivers side. To go along with the missing master cylinder.

Did find the clutch linkage in a trash bucket. So that's a plus at least.

But the most important lesson of the day kiddos. Do not get sidetracked & forget to use a jack stand. The jeep slipped off the jack while I was under it. Thankfully I'd left a tire under the brake drum. So it didnt go to the ground, but those spring hangers will sure do a number on you. Partially torn my right pectoral muscle with a nice sprain to go with it. So that's gonna slow me up for a while.

Think safety everyone. Check things twice. Wont always get lucky when you screw up.
