Hey Everybody,

I've got a deep philosophical Jeep question for you. For the past few years, I've been spending a lot of time away from home. At most, I probably see my CJ5 every 3-6 months. Nobody else in my family wants to touch the thing, so it just sits there outside with a tarp over it, gathering dust.

Its got a lot of sentimental value for me, besides the fact that its just a lot of fun to own, but I also don't want to be damaging it, with all these long periods of inactivity.

So what do you think I should do? Hold onto to it for dear life, or sell it to someone else who could use it regularly?

Thanks! :)

Josh

This tells me you need to keep it. I have things that sit for months and the are just fine.

KEEP IT! :notworthy:

Keep it, make a carport for it and keep a battery tender and fuel stabilizer in it

Dude ! KEEP IT ! Get some Stabill gas additive also and then drive it when you can

Keep it. Mine can sit for months at a time and I look at it almost daily

You know, I absolutely understand. Being gone stinks, and you hate leaving the CJ to sit and no one will touch it except you.

KEEP IT!

Rent a storage garage, put some sta-bil in the tank, disconnect the battery, put her up on jack stands and take her out when you come home. You will regret getting rid of it. I understand the desire to just not have to worry about it, I've been gone enough in my time too, heck, I've even entertained a couple of offers for mine, but in the end, I just couldn't imagine having to 1, ever be in the market and try to find another one, and 2, spending the amount of time with another one to get it to where I want it.

If it's not costing you very much money, then keep it. You can get reduced insurance rates for low mileage use cars. Sometimes very very low rates depending upon amount of miles. Just store it well and drive it when you can!

I have been blessed to have enjoyed several versions of the CJ. I have good and bad thoughts about all of them. I would have to say that if you intend to replace the CJ, know that the prices are out of sight on many and going up. You may have to hunt far and wide to find anything you could live with. If you do not replace it, you will join the throng of folks that say " I use to have one, wish I never sold it." Personally, you own a jeep, take care of it based on how you use it and hope you don't run out of money. I guess there might be some who are happy having rid themselves of their jeep. I don't know any!

I have to agree! Keep it. I have done this 4 times now. Every time I sell one (except the 89 Wrangler I had, total junk!) I have regretted it. I’m now building my last one. I will never sell this one. I will own it until I die. Never again will I sell my Jeep. This viscous cycle stops now! Don’t make the same mistakes I’ve made. You will just end up buying another one. You know you will! Keeps get in your blood and nothing else will replace it.

For years I said that about my CJ5 ..... Then a Willys Wagon came my way, now I'm looking at the lack of room in my driveway and awful thoughts have crept their way into my thinking.

dude !

Thanks for the Feedback! Although asking you guys if i should sell my CJ, is like asking a bunch of alcoholics, if I should stop drinking.
:D :chug:
But you're right! I would definitely regret it, if i sold it. Even if i gotta put it in storage for half the year, it would be worth it!
Thanks!

There is a old saying, you don't know what you have until it's gone.

I sold my CJ5 of 27 years last month and so far I am good with the choice. I wasn't giving it the attention or money it needed. This guy showed up with his 15 year old daughter and she fell in love with it. He asked her if this was the one and she gave him a huge YES! He is a fabricator and it went to the right home. I feel better knowing this Jeep with make a new family happy and I am happy with my Scrambler.
