Colorado Springs
Vehicle(s)
1984 cj7 RENEGADE, Hard Top, factory air, reman 258 I6, ax15, D 300, D 30, AMC 20 with one piece axle, welded tubes and a searchers truss system, 4.56 gears, 4" lift, BFG 33x12.5x15, DirtWorx front and rear bumpers, rock sliders
Ran up to Woodland Park and rode the Rampart range road back into the Springs. The start was washboard, full width, as always, but it got better after the gate for Rampart Reservoir. Traffic also decreased soon after the reservoir. Didn't need it but dropped into 4hi for most of the trip just to exercise the moving parts that haven't moved in a while. the only downside would be the mario andretti types that weren't there for the sights. most sported non-Colorado plates. The change in altitude dropped the temperatures for a couple of hours as well. It was good to see how much recovery is taking place after the fire.

Is that a pretty recent fire ?

Ten years ago, last week. Regrowth is a slow process. The aspen come in in a lot of places because they are a biomass. The scrub oak, grow quickly because they are scrub oak. Everything else gets slowed down because the soil gets superheated and loses its ability to grow things for quite some time. Pyroclastic I think it's called. Something like that, it gets hard. Thats why after a fire we have mudslides and flash floods for years on the burn scars. Forrest fires suck and now we get them all of the time. Climate change is real

Yeah fire is bad sometimes. Most of my family is in Oregon. My sister has a small bungalow in PS Cali for winters and has had to go there several times in summer the last few years.

bad pretty much all of the time in the west. In 2020 alone we lost over 600,000 acres of forest in Colorado. Last year one town, Marshall CO, lost 1000 homes in a matter of hours. Big time drought conditions exist at the top of the world.

Hydrophobic not pyroclastic. not even close :)

I just missed you. I ran Rampart range road last month along with some other trails in the area.

Doggone, would have been great to visit with you again. We finally have the old jeep set the way we like it. Next time give me a shout when you're in Colorado or near-by. It would be nice to do some trails with you. We still have to deal with Carolyn and her school teaching duties but I'm full retired now and we can get a substitute for her classes for a day or two.

Good to hear your CJ is running the way you like! I'll be in Colorado Springs April 19th for a few days then heading to Moab on the 22nd for a week, you're welcome join us (although I'm thinking Carolyn has spring break end of March). I'll also be back in Colorado sometime in July and again in August. I'll send you a pm with my cell#.

Turns out I won't be able to send you my cell # because I'm over the limit for pm's, and there is too many to go through to delete the ones I don't need. I believe you have Bill D's # if you need to get in touch.

We have been considering Moab for some time now. It may be that we can find some time to be out there when you are. As spring gets closer, we will know what can do. Thanks Posi

Dates for Moab: arrive on 4/23, Trail Run 4/24-4/29, depart 4/30

Thanks for the dates, fingers crossed we will be there for some of them. Early part of the week most likely.

Ran through Woodland Park on my way to the Springs from Breckinridge and took a couple shots.

Nice arch of antlers Posi. Have you seen the antler arches in Jackson Hole ?

I haven’t but I did look at photos of them, very impressive!
When I was returning from the Rubicon I ran RT 50 (Loneliest Road in America) to Moab and came across a 15ft arch of antlers that was impressive as well.

A few photos from August
