Fellow CJ Friends,
I am considering replacing the stock 15/16 inch swaybar on my '86 7 with a 1-1/8 inch O.D. sway bar from ADDCO. Has anyone done this with their CJ? Cost is about $165.00 for the new bar. Has anyone made this conversion? I was wondering if the heavier bar had a noticeable improvement in on-road handling.
Drive on Jeepers and thanks!

I echo CJ's sentiment.
I believe the stock swaybar is plenty strong enough for what it does. The best way to keep your swaybar performing as it should is to pay special attention to the bushings. That's where the tolerance on a sway bar exists and any noticeable play that is swaybar related will come from there.

I've never heard of anyone breaking a swabar, 1 1/8" is overkill :D

In fact, a bigger sway bar may get you in more trouble. Without the body leaning a bit you don't get that feel of turning, a tip over may creep up on you. A little body lean is really not a problem You'll never get that CJ to corner like a sports car... :chug:

Do you do much off-road? How about going the other direction and get some disconnects? Your off-roading driving will improve greatly.

Will it help on road, yes. But it will hamper you more off-road. :):):)

I threw my swaybar in the trash way back in 1995 :p

I also see no need to up-grade, the stock one is all you should need.

Neither one of my cj’s has sway bars, but my yj does.
