I've been thinking I would like to add power steering to my '74 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I6 but I've noticed a small glitch in my plan. The alternator currently resides in the location the power steering pump would need to be placed.
I noticed there are mounting holes on the passenger side of the block.
Is there a way to move the alternator to the passenger side of the engine? What year donor vehicles should I be looking at for parts?
Any help and photos would be greatly appreciated.:notworthy:

Thanks in advance,

Also, on a vaguely related topic... are the mounting holes (some or all) currently being used by the alternator mounting brackets the same ones to be used when adding power steering?

Can you get me a picture of how your set up is? I'll post one of my set up later this afternoon for you.

Thanks CJ I did see that thread. But.... In the picture showing the block mount holes on the driver's side I don't have those. I have the bosses but they are not drilled or tapped to accept bolts.
There is another link that seems to show more of what I have: Alternator Mounting bracket help!!!! So, to move the alternator to the passenger side and add power steering to the driver's side do you need to change the water pump to the later ('75 and on) style? Do you need to change the timing cover also? And, without the mounting holes on the driver's side of my block how will I mount the power steering pump?
