Anyone used Alcan Spring Orbit-Eye's....?

I'm interested...

I was think'n about crosswinds and the like on the highway, and body lean in turns and such.
I don't have a sway-bar on mine.

Thanks for posting that link there Lumpy. I think they would be good to help against the leaf springs getting too twisted but its too late for mine.

That design made me think of a Heim joint.

Their designed for offroad. I would call and ask them about installing on a daily driver. My guess, they would recommend not to use them on a DD, or install them only on the rear. I could see some drive ability issues using them on the front.

I would suggest yj springs.

I didn't read this in a tech article however, if I had, I would have posted a link to it.

:)
Bill at Alcan has been building these for quite sometime.........his latest version uses a special sized spring end to house the larger ball.

Very flexible but does take some getting used to in the body roll department, that will make you pucker up when a wheel drops in a hole...........Yes Off Road only!

Jeff at Deaver springs took a little different approach with his that will fit a standard YJ end........about 60% of the flexibility of the Alcan , but does offer better body roll control.......

Those look sweet, I think you definitely need a zerk fitting in the spring eye

Thanks for the info... I don't see how that a swaybar with disconnects wouldn't solve this.

I have a sway bar with the heaviest duty OE spring back they offered. My sway bar is now disconnected and it's fine 90% of the time. The other 10% can be a little hairy, but the more I drive it the more I can shrink that 10%. I didn't want to do disconnects because they're a bit of a PITA, but with it only being 10% of the time I need them it's doable.

I'm planning a 2.5" YJ lift and now I see these orbits and since you have to order your springs to either use orbits or not ever use them, I need to make a decision sometime in the next 6-9 mos. and I'm leaning towards this setup, with the use of my sway bar.

007...........If you have your bar disconnected 90% of the time then your spring pack is obviously allot stiffer than most off road folks would consider in the Loose or Flexy department...........

Disconnects have there place if you use your vehicle for multipurpose.....

The Alcan setup with there springs well give you the feeling the axle dropped out below you the first time you get on a side hill........does take some getting used to and will change the way you approach certain challanges off road.

The Deaver setup is more compliant and I've seen many guys use that on both street & off road vehicles.

If you want the extreme leaf flex you can also go to a long leave setup whereby a good sway bar is helpful or just 4 link the rear and 3 link the front with some Fox suspension shocks.............but even then a tunable compliant sway or anti-rock bar becomes and important part of that package to get all you can out of it.

Lots of choices out there.

Yep, my spring packs are crazy. I don't recall off the top of my head how many leaves in each, but I do remember that it was the most they offered. It's stupid stiff.

So there's the question, if I choose to do these, will a sway bar manage the on-road driving?

I really could not answer that..........just to many variables. Perhaps a sway bar front and rear would help but again the variables are endless with spring rates , ride heights , vehicle weight Etc.

Anything can be managed if you want to pay the price.......

You really just have to figure out suspension wise in the category of looseness and flexibility as you want that best complements your style of driving and how the vehicle is used.........it's always a compromise when it's multi use....
