Background:
Bought a 1974 wagoneer pump/pulley/lines/bracket on ebay and installed on my AMC 304 three years ago. Worked like a champ. Pulley finely wore to the point it runs out too bad to continue.

So I call Team Jeep Wagoneer looking for a pulley for a pre-1975 wagoneer. Of course no one makes a new pulley that will work. So they tell me a newer pump with a 3/4" shaft and the newer style pulley will work. I installed it not even thinking about the belt width. Turns out the new pulley is for a 3/8" wide belt. Every pulley on my rig is for a 1/2" belt. With this new pulley, the belt sits 1/8" above the edge of the pulley. I start it up anyway just to see what happens. It'll pump fluid, but the belt squeals and due to the slipping it bounces violently(sort of expected this, was hoping). So now I'm back to buying a 35 year old pulley out of the junk yard and hoping for the best. Do I need to buy all new pulleys for my rig that match a 3/8" wide belt? Will they squeal do to less contact? I'd rather spend money on new, but don't wanna sink $540 into a serpentine conversion. This is basically a 4-wheeler for me.
Any ideas at all?

Is the 3/8 belt the same as the late 70s/80s Wagoneers? If so, it shouldn't be too hard to find and shouldn't have any issue with the correct size belt.

The problem is that it's not the bottom of the belt that drives the pulleys. It is the sides that make contact with the "wedge". A narrower width belt will fly all over inside the grooves of my crank/water pump pulleys.

Right, I meant that the pulleys shouldn't be hard to find.

Thanks, Lumpy. But I already tried them. I found one of your old posts while searching. They said it's an AMC thing. They aren't aware of another make/model that will work. I tried NAPA and they had one perfect in every way except the offset was too deep. I hate to buy all new pulleys. Man, that's an expensive fix.

Thanks, guys. I just gave up on finding a solution that uses a new part. I bought a used one off ebay. Hopefully I get a few years use out of it. If this one wears out, I'll bore it out and press in a sleeve. Shouldn't have ruined the first one, but I thought I could just go down to NAPA and get a match. Never ruin a part even if you think you won't ever use it again. SMH
